Winter Snowshoe Program

Come join a Gallatin National Forest guide and learn about the great outdoors during the winter.  Participants will learn why Refuge Point was a vital meeting place after the 1959 Hebgen Lake Earthquake.

The following snowshoe programs are geared for beginners. The snowshoe walk lasts 2 hours.  Snowshoes are not provided. Snowshoes rentals are available in West Yellowstone.

Schedule for the 2016/17 season:

– December 29– February 3
– February 18

Meet at 1 p.m. at the Hebgen Lake Ranger Station on the northeast edge of West Yellowstone.  We will caravan to Refuge Point which is located 8 miles north of West Yellowstone and 15 miles west on highway 287.

Please dress in layers and wear a snow-type boot.  Bring along water, a snack and binoculars. For more information please call Joanne Girvin at 406 823-6965.
