Wet and Wild Water Fun – Boating, Kayaking, & Rafting

Home » Wet and Wild Water Fun – Boating, Kayaking, & Rafting

Nothing beats the heat of a summer afternoon like getting out on the water around West Yellowstone. We suggest a quiet float down the river or kayak adventure along the lakeshore. If you have a need for speed or an adrenaline rush, then rent a boat on the lake for waterskiing or jump on a whitewater raft trip.

Area lakes are great for a casual wildlife-watching cruise, fishing excursion, or high-speed watersports. Ice moves off in late April, and the water warms for swimming by July. From July through September is the best time for water sports. Hebgen Lake accommodates both large and small boats, personal watercraft, kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and sailboats. Marinas have motorboat, canoe, and kayak rentals as well as gas and supplies.

West Yellowstone acts as a hub for a multitude of rafting adventures. Among the Montana choices are the excitement of the Gallatin River Canyon near Big Sky, Yankee Jim Canyon north of Gardiner, or the thrill of Bear Trap Canyon near Ennis. Scenic and whitewater trips can also be found along the Snake River near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Half- and full-day experiences are available, and there’s opportunity to combine zipline delight or horseback riding with a rafting adventure. Take some time to determine the best experience and location for your family.
